The Greenwich Boot Breakdown

September 1st, 2010

We received a new delivery of our Greenwich Boot by Alden. If you missed them the first time you might want to check them out this time. The boots are made by Alden to our exact specifications and we thought you might like to know the level of detail that goes into creating a new model with Alden.

To begin with we chose the last, in this case the Barrie last arguably the most comfortable and best fitting of all Alden lasts. The uppers are Horween Chamois* a fat liquored, mill dyed leather, that is incredibly soft and supple. Next we removed the speed hooks and went with agatine eyelets all the way up for a simple unified look.

We built these boots on Flex Welt soles, which are oil soaked for flexibility but also have a high degree of water resistance and often referred to as double water-lock soles. We then requested a mid tan pre-stitch reverse welt** to give it some muscle, and had the welt continue around the back of the heel rather than stop at the breast ***. The last step was the laces and for that we chose flat waxed.

And there you have it. That and a great shoe company to work with and you got yourself a real beauty, a boot the New York Times called “strapping” and made “Exclusively for Leffot, a stylish downtown men’s shoe store”.

Boots By EG

August 31st, 2010

Boots were big last fall and all by all indication they’ll continue to be a strong footwear style this year. Of course there are all types of boots from rugged to refined. When it comes to the refined category Edward Green is the boot of choice around here bar none.

All the boots below were made to order with the exception of the Galway Dark Oak/ Walnut Country Calf, which we’ll be stocking again this fall. Delivery for EG MTO’s is currently the end of November. If you’re considering placing an order for a pair for fall now is the time.

The Reverse Fold

August 29th, 2010

We’re really pleased with the Fold shell cordovan money holder; it’s elegant, simple and as low tech as you can get. Cordovan is very supple leather and develops a wonderful patina over time.

We thought you might like to know that as beautiful as the finished side is the Fold can also be used on the reverse side. I recently began using my color 6 Fold reversed. I like the look of the cordovan on the inside when I open it, as well as the natural finish on the outside; I’m interested to see how the backside will age. It’s all about options.

Interview With Alden’s Arthur Tarlow

August 28th, 2010

Arthur Tarlow President of Alden Shoe Company discusses the company’s philosophy, American traditional shoes, the current trend among younger customers seeking value and quality in their footwear, and what we can expect form Alden in the future.

Beams Plus Harajuku, the Japanese clothing shop and a long time Alden stockist, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, conducted this interview.

One For The Ladies

August 26th, 2010

We are really excited about the new Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots for LADIES! It’s really difficult finding cool shoes for women. These are essentially a shrunken version of the men’s 1000 Mile boots so the proportions are perfect. The women’s 1000 mile is made just like the men’s of Horween Chromexcel in the USA. We’re stocking them in black and brown and sizes 5-10. I know we’ve said it before but we love women in men’s shoes, these boots are just so badass and cute at the same time.

Women’s 1000 Mile Original, Black & Brown Chromexcel – $325

Maliseet British Tan

August 24th, 2010

There’s a misconception out there that suggests moccasins, like Quoddy are summer shoes. I don’t see it that way at all; in fact I think they’re great all season casual shoes. I also think the new Maliseet in British Tan Chromexcel makes my point. The color is an autumnal rusty brown great with denim, khakis flannels and cords.

The fact that they’re completely handsewn and comfortable as hell is a bonus. It’s been feeling a little fall like which of course won’t last and either will these Maliseet’s.

Alfred Sargent Handgrade

August 22nd, 2010

Alfred Sargent’s Handgrade Collection has been receiving a lot of buzz of late. It’s the newest offering by the venerable one hundred twelve year old English shoemaker. We’ve been fortunate to partner with Sargent to be the first U.S. stockist.

So far all shoes have been made to order and orders have been brisk. That’s because the shoes are meticulously crafted and styled, and fit so incredibly well.

We will be stocking several models this fall including the Milton in black calf, the Keats in Antique Chestnut and the Browning in Snuff Suede. In the meantime feel free to view some samples that will be on display during our upcoming trunk show October 17th & 18th.

Letters

August 19th, 2010

We love it when clients tell us how much they love their shoes. We particularly loved this letter because it was from one of our female clients that recently purchased a pair of Corthay Arca size 5.5. Incidentally she also has a pair of Edward Green Ladies boots on order in Olive Antique, which are going to be to die for…

Steven, I felt both chic and funky wearing my new Pierre Corthay shoes from Leffot yesterday.  I could run around my building at work without teetering on heels, which is more typical of me.  And yet, I felt sexy.  The shoes are so unusual for a woman that I felt like me, not following the masses but doing something special.  Your ideas and the service you have provided has made this experience so much fun.  I am going to bring my best friend in to look at flats and boots (she has larger feet, so may actually be a real size).  Thank you again.  I look forward to joining the ranks of the Leffot addicts.  Now I need to buy socks!

Chetwynd

August 18th, 2010

We’re all aboard the suede train these days, and the Church’s Chetwynd is bound in our direction. I love the look of brogues in suede, the punching and gimping conveys a deeper richer character than calfskin.

They’re also incredibly versatile, great looking casually as well as with a charcoal or chalk stripe suit for instance. And yes it’s okay if they develop a weathered appearance in fact they’re even better that way.

These shoes feature the low profile diamond rubber soles that keep moisture out yet still looks dashing all dressed up.
