Spectator shoes date from the nineteenth century but reached the height of popularity during the 1920s and 1930s. An enduring classic with loads of style, these spectators pair perfectly with seersucker, linen, and cotton. You’re guaranteed to turn plenty of heads as quite the dandy in a pair this spring.
Edward Green’s Malvern is every bit the classic English wingtip. We’ve made this pair in the spectator style, which was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Spectators are most commonly seen in white and brown or white and black, but we’ve given this pair a twist and made them in Midnight calfskin and Mushroom suede for a more understated look. Spectators are a classic summer shoe, and when they’re made by Edward Green, you can’t go wrong.
Opposites attract, and it couldn’t be more evident than in these two takes on the wingtip from Edward Green. The Falkirk is a punched-out spectator done in Cloud and Midnight Blue calfskin. The unique brogueing traverses the entire shoe and makes the Falkirk distinctly Edward Green. It’s the perfect shoe for a maximalist with an eye for elegance.
Conversely, the Beaulieu is an austere take on the wingtip. Like the Falkirk, it has the classic wing-shaped pattern cut at the toe and the heel counter, but unlike the Falkirk, it has no broguing. Its clean lines, made distinct by double-needle stitching at the seams, make it a supremely elegant shoe that is perfect to wear with suits and slacks.

Summer’s approaching, and it’s time to break out the seersucker and spectator shoes. During the Jazz Age seersucker was de rigueur in the warm summer months. This summer there are two weekends to step back to the roaring twenties and party like a Fitzgerald or Hemingway.
Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra hosts the 8th annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on governor’s Island. Singer/arranger Arenella brings his 11-piece orchestra’s jazz age sound to the festivities singing, playing cornet and leading his band.
Mr. Arenella inhabits the past as much as anyone thriving in the present can. But making Dreamland a reality takes lots of sweat and shoe leather — from shoes both vintage and custom-made by us. To that end Mr. Arenella favors Edward Green and we have just the ticket for putting on the Ritz.
