This is one that we’ve wanted to make for a while and here it is, the Alden x Leffot “Gatsby” Longwing Blucher.
Spectator shoes date from the nineteenth century but reached the height of popularity during the 1920s and 1930s. Inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald our Gatsby is crisp and clean in burnished tan and white calfskin.
An enduring classic with loads of style these pair perfectly with seersucker, linen and cotton. You’re guaranteed to turn plenty of heads as quite the dandy in a pair these spring.

The Longwing Blucher is not exclusive to Alden, in fact it’s been in production in the US and UK for many years. It is however a very American style and is often referred to around Northampton as the American wingtip. Which is to say this shoe has All American staying power.
Alden of New England has perfected the use of shell cordovan in making the LWB. One of the ways they do that is by using cordovan tanned only by Horween Leather Company in Chicago Illinois. It is with this cordovan that we designed our two new LWB made expressly for Leffot.
Color 8 and Black shell cordovan is the backbone of any shoe collection and yet some men are without either. If you are a lover of cordovan and longwings these shoes are designed for you.

Alden first introduced us to Horween Natural Chromexcel in January 2010. Since then our Natural Longwing’s and Natural Indy boots have become something of a staple at Leffot and we have received delivery of both models.
Natural CXL is a wonderful leather the color is totally versatile and goes great with denim, or khaki for a perfect casual look. With wear and care it develops a patina that looks lived in and rich and much better with age. Here’s an example of our Natural LWB.
The LWB is on the Barrie last and the Indy is on the Trubalance.

Here’s something you might not have expected. We’ve taken Alden’s classic longwing blucher design, used for decades on heavy cordovan brogues, and made it with Horween oiled Tobacco Chamois leather.
Along with commando soles, these shoes are a surprisingly elegant mix of rugged and dress shoe style. With water resistant leather and a heavy duty lugged sole that can take a beating and keep you standing, these shoes will help keep you dry and looking sharp.
If you don’t “just” want to wear boots all winter, these LWB’s are the way to go

Shoes are like children, it’s very difficult to pick a favorite. All are loved and cherished for their unique qualities. That being said however, I can’t help myself. My current favorites, the pair I find myself wearing most lately are my Alden longwings in Genuine Horween shell cordovan color 8.
Why? The answer is simple; the answer is simple because the shoes themselves are simple. Simply said a classic style in a classic material and color, a shoe that transcends time and space. A shoe I may have worn in the sixties or seventies, which is just as relevant today. Not only are they a true-blooded American icon they also provide great comfort and support.
There is no other leather I know of that maintains the robust elegance and suppleness of shell cordovan. Add to that the beautiful way the color diffuses at the creases creating a vintage patina and you’ve got the makings of a favorite child.
Don’t get me wrong I love my EG’s, Corthay’s, AS’s and more but right here, right now I love my longwings most.
