The Next 1,000 Miles

August 17th, 2010

More than 100 years ago, Wolverine founder G.A. Krause built a company on a dream of creating finely crafted footwear using the best materials of the time. The Wolverine 1,000 Mile shoe was created in a time when men were looking for authentic craftsmanship and footwear that would last. Advertised as comfortable enough to “give you 1,000 miles of wear,” the shoe became a wardrobe staple for men of the 20th century.

The next 1,000 Miles has arrived, introducing the “Addison“. One hundred years after the first 1,000 Mile shoes debuted Wolverine continues to create finely crafted footwear using the best materials of the time. Made of a new Horween  leather called Inferno these boots are as comfortable as the day is long and built to take whatever you can throw at them.

The Fold

August 14th, 2010

A wise old gambler once said, “You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em”. Sage advice no doubt and exactly what our new billfolds are all about.

These svelte sheaths are about as low tech as you can get, just a single piece of Horween shell cordovan, three folds, and voila your cash is snugly secured in horse ass leather for safekeeping.

Billfolds are available in two sizes; small for $$$ and large for €, £ and ¥ plus a credit card or two. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Small 2.5″ x 2.75″ Folded / Color 6, Natural, Color 8 – $95

Large 2.5″ x 3.5″ Folded / Color 8, Natural - $120

My Friends Shoes

August 12th, 2010

When our friend Junji paid a visit from Tokyo recently I was struck at once by his shoes. I’ve been captivated by the Edward Green Wigmore for some time now. His pair were well worn and well loved.

The thing about shoes is that they look best worn in. The creases and scuffs are a testament to the fondness we have for them. As for the Wigmore I’m sure they’ll eventually find a spot on our table they’re one righteous pair of shoes. And as for Junji all I can say is, I like your style dude.

Next Maliseet

August 8th, 2010

Our next Quoddy Maliseet, arriving later this month will be in British Tan Chromexcel on Honey camp soles. This is a great color that really shows the pull up* of the Chromexcel and quite possibly our new favorite color.

*Pull-up – A temporary lightening in color achieved by bending leather. This is caused by the temporary displacement of oils, greases, and/or waxes.

Black Grain Longwing

August 5th, 2010

Our latest version of the every lovin’, every popular Alden Longwing is here. We chose black Alpine Grain and put it over soles of plantation crepe for all weather wear-ability and comfort. These have the heft and guts to take on the foulest days and the cushion to keep you bounding along.

Longwings have been around for years because they’re classic and versatile. They are time tested and proven and belong in every wardrobe. Fashion goes in and out of style but classic is forever.

Edward Green Asquith

August 4th, 2010

The Edward Green Asquith is one of those iconic EG styles. A classic English cap-toe if every there was one. I love the gimping and the 2:1 hole punches something about it just makes me sentimental.

Suede Report

August 1st, 2010

Now hear this, early indicators point to a big season for suede. We’re feeling it and so are many of our clients. Recent MTO’s have been particularly suede heavy. It’s time to get over the whole “I’ll ruin those the first time I wear them” thing. Suede is a lot more durable than you think and gets better looking with wear.

It’s never too early to plan ahead, if you’ve been considering ordering a pair for fall now is the time to place your order.

The Ivy Shell Game

July 27th, 2010

The fourth and final color (for now) of the Ivy loafer has arrived and it’s gorgeous. This is Color 6 one of the most beautiful burgundy’s there is. Most everyone is familiar with Color 8 a dark rich burgundy, Color 6 has less intensity than 8 and is brighter which makes the pull-up* more pronounced, a desirable effect and tell tale sign you’re wearing shoes made of cordovan.

We couldn’t be happier with the way these shoes turned out, our thanks to Ron Rider of Rider Boot Co, for all your help in getting them to market. To Mike Rancourt and his talented staff of hand sewers at Rancourt & Co, you’ve done yourselves proud, and to Horween Leather for producing the finest shell* cordovan on the planet for over 100 years.
