Wolverine 721 LTD

A great launch event for the Wolverine 721 LTD boots, a good time was had by all. The boots were the star of the evening and for good reason, they’re awesome. Not just incredibly good-looking these boots are classic and reminiscent of days gone they’re also incredibly comfortable.

The 721′s are made from Horween color 8-shell cordovan and based on a model from the archives. The shaft and tongue are unlined shell, which is great because it’s softer and suppler around the ankle and instep. They’re surprisingly lightweight and flexible and offer great support under your feet. As with all cordovan boots the more you wear them the better they look.

Wolverine is only making 1,000 pairs of these and each are hand numbered and includes Basswood shoetrees and a certificate of authenticity. If you’re looking for old school style and comfort these boots are just the ticket.

Hey Steve, these are gorgeous! I just purchased a 1000 mile pair in Brown the other day and love them. Question though, any recs on what I should use to polish/care for the leather? I normally shine my dress shoes (Aldens & Allen Edmonds) with a neutral shoe cream to maintain the same color. Should I stick to the same regimen with these? And is it misguided to add taps or leather protection on the soles/heels?

I recommend the Montana Pitch Blend Leather Dressing for the Original 1000 Mile boots in Chromexcel. It’s an all natural blend of beeswax, pine pitch and mink oil. It conditions and weather proofs them which is exactly what you need.

The 721 LTD shell cordovan boots however are best treated with Saphir Renovateur it is colorless and gentle and should be used sparingly.

My 721′s arrived and fit great. First day out in them a guy stops me at lunch and wants to know what they were…that rarely happens and I have a significant investment in my shoe collection.

I changed out the laces to round braided/waxed and they give the boot a better look for business.

    Glad I got them. Thanks!

Thanks much Steven. I just happened to have bought some Montana Pitch Blend from you on my last trip in, so that’ll come in handy.

I ended up bringing the boots into my shoe guy and had him add some Goodyear protection on the soles for the winter and to hopefully help the boots hold up a bit longer before re-soling and to handle the NYC concrete. Also threw on taps. That vibram heel needs to last!

Just got a black pair of Addison 1000-miles. Got a nice thin rubber sole on the front to gain traction and protect the leather sole.

What can I do to protect the heal?

    Posted 26 October 2010 at 3:37 pm | Permalink

Joshua – I did the same with the front section of my Addison’s but also added black plastic taps on the front (toe) and back (heel) of the boot. For a nominal $5 this should help both ends last a bit longer/wear less quickly. Not sure about any other type of protection you can give to the heel – or if its necessary. I’d defer to Steve for a better answer in that regard.

    KGS, Joshua and others,

what I do not understand is: there is, thanks to Wolverine, finally a rugged boot with a leather sole on the market, and the first (or second) thing you do is to put a rubber sole on it. Why?

I am so happy to enjoy the comfort and the looks of a boot with a leather sole, so why should I “destroy” the appearence of this boot? If weather changes to rain and snow, and it will in Germany, too, I switch to my Red Wings or to my Alden which come with rubber sole from the manufacturer.

Any leather sole will wear out. So what? Get it resoled and have another two or three years of fun with a real leather sole. The 721 LTD is so clean, rugged but elegant, why ruin the looks with a rubber sole??

Thanks for clearing things up for me,

    Mike

Hello Steven, Thanks for the prompt response. Really appreciate it. In your experience, do you recommended going for a 9.5D when I currently wear a comfortable 9.5E Timberland and a painful 9D Redwing 1907 (new, still breaking in!) If so, please could you quote me the pricing and shipping details via email?
    Kind regards.
