Edward Green Oundle

The Oundle is a somewhat quirky monk strap with its high buckle and full leather vamp; nonetheless it is a handsome and often sought after shoe. This pair in particular is fetching because it’s in shell cordovan or “Crup” as the say in Northampton. The simpler the style the better to appreciate the beauty of the leather, and yes E.G. uses Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan Crup.

The way EG do cordovan runs rings round Alden I think.

So EG includes shell cordovan in its MTO program? Here’s a crazy question- will they do it for the Shannons?

I’ve seen EG boots in shell so I suppose the Shannon can be produced however it requires a lot of shell which means $$$

would you be able to tell us approximately how much an MTO pair in shell cordovan would cost at Edward Green? many thanks!

    AJB,

I actually bed to differ a bit. No doubt, I am an EG guy, but I REALLY TRULY think something goes on from the time the shells leave Hoween to when they become a finished EG or Alden shoe that puts Alden over the top.

Same deficiency (if you want to cal it that) with Vass, which also uses Horween shell.

The Alden end product, is smoother and more lustrous (to my eye), as if there is a finishing glaze or some process the shells undergo at Alden.

My EGs shells (troon in #8 and Cardiff in whiskey) both look somewhat dull and additional polishing makes them worse, not better.

I’m not saying either are “bad,” but rather that in my opinion that the Alden treatment is better.

Would EG do an MTO of this as a captoe? I think it could look good. Theres a lot of empty space on the vamp and the buckle is far back…

We could ask them and see what they say.
