Perhaps it’s silly to argue with success but have you tried it with brushes alone ?

Use a softer brush to remove dirt and then a firm brush to correct the texture of the suede

I believe this method is less likely to wash the natural oils etc out of the leathers

A little Kelly’s Edge Dressing wouldn’t hurt either

Regardless I think your boy’s shoes look good

Nice work, Steven. One variation on this is to deal with non water soluble dirt in the suede by giving the wet shoes a wipe-over with a sponge dipped into a solution of washing up liquid and water, follow by a rinse.
