My New Jeans

I went to Uniqlo yesterday for the first time in a very long while. I wasn’t really looking for jeans but I spotted these, which looked much nicer than the rest  of the styles (and they have a lot of styles). I was in the market for a new pair anyway and since my usual source (A.P.C.) was closed for the night I thought I’d give these a try.

I like jeans that are plain, no names, no tags, or fancy stitching. I like dark raw denim and who does that better than most? Japan. These jeans are not just made in Japan they are as the tag says “All Made in Japan”. Without further adieu I found my size and took them home. I wasn’t in the mood to try them on in the store.

I guess it was meant to be because they fit perfectly, I didn’t even have to hem them (a first) since they’re made in different lengths. They’re also sold cuffed this way and as I read recently in Men’s Ex  this is the perfect cuff size (of course).

My only hesitation was the two different color  threads, one a light yellow the other the traditional burnt orange. Then I stopped myself and realized “Hey, they’re “All Made in Japan” they must be right.” Hard to imagine them putting out a product that wasn’t tested, evaluated, critiqued and tweaked a thousand times over. They get my vote.

Uniqlo, in short order, has become my favorite clothing store. That’s where I’m buying almost everything these days. I gave up expensive jeans some time ago in favor of Levi’s and have recently picked up a few pairs at Uniqlo (along with socks, two “suits,” shirts, trousers, shorts and sweaters. They go great with my $1000 shoes!

Steven – in terms of sizing, did you go with your trouser size or did you go down a couple inches?

    Jordan,

It depends on how you like your jeans to feel and look. I buy them as tight as I can because they stretch.

    Evan,

Well said and that is an ethos to live by. Shoes make the outfit, I don’t care what anyone says…

    Hey Steven,

They have a 501 kind of aura; wondering if they’re made with a zipper or button fly?

    Hey Scott,

    They have a button fly.

I’m wearing those exact jeans today and I have worn APC for more than ten years. I also had trouble with the stitching, but like you I relented. I think all of the Uniqlo denim stands out, but these are quite special. Cheers!

I’m still waiting on those Burgundy Arcas!

    LO,

I knew from the start you were a man of impeccable taste. The Arca’s should be here end of Sept, btw I hope you stop by for our event on the 10th.

I went to nyc from LA specifically for those jeans a few weeks ago. Cannot beat the price $70-$80ish.. and the have enough sizes to fit real people.

I can’t see “all made in japan” from uniqlo in my country. Japanese always did this kind of thing.
BTW, the jeans looking great on you!

    Steven,
I’m not sure whether you’ll be notified of my posting on such an old thread as this; however I figured I would at least try to get some clarifications on the jeans you discuss/wear above. I am currently looking at the Uniqlo’s website in an effort to determine the exact pair above in order that I may to purchase one or two of my own. First, do you recall if your pair were the labeled as “regular fit straight jeans?” Second, are those you are wearing the black color or the blue color? And, lastly, how much did you deviate from your “benchmark” pant size to satisfactorily account for the stretch and/or desired fit? Anyways, I am thoroughly hoping you might still receive this and have a moment or two to clear this up for me.

    Thankfully,

These jeans were black although I thought they were dark blue when I bought them. I bought them in the same size I buy my A.P.C. New Standard jeans. I don;t recall how they were labeled other than All Made in Japan. Hope that helps.
