500 Miles X 2
Sure it would have been perfect if the song were “1000 Miles” but it wasn’t. Instead Bobby Bare sang “500 Miles Away From Home” in 1963 and it’s still a favorite of mine.
So what’s the point? Well we received the first delivery of the Wolverine 1000 mile boots and I couldn’t help feeling nostalgic. I could imagine the men who wore these boots when they were first produced in the early 1900′s. I also imagine that some, if not many of them worked “away from home”, doing whatever it took to put bread on the table.
Many years have past and yet, today there is a stronger sense of heritage, and “doing what it takes” than any time I can recall. I grew up in Michigan and Wolverine (a Michigan company) was always present. It represented the no nonsense, Midwestern sensibility of it’s customers. Today over 100 years later they are still manufactured in the U.S.A. as they’ve always been and that’s good enough for me.
So listen to the song twice or 500 miles per boot, these babies were classics from day one. I encourage you to slip a pair on, lace ‘em up and embrace your heritage.

I think these boots are fantastic. They will work with my tweed or leather jackets. I can’t wait for my size to get here.
