Tony Gaziano Pays Visit to Leffot

October 30th, 2008

Tony Gaziano of Gaziano & Girling popped in for an unexpected visit yesterday. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with him.

He is in NY to show his Bespoke collection at the Loews Regency Hotel. Feel free to contact Tony for an appointment. He is also here to run in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday (his first), I hope you lovers of G&G shoes go out and cheer him on.

Tony was wearing a wicked pair of bespoke shoes that I photographed to share with you. These shoes get better with age.

The Reverso

October 29th, 2008

The name of this model the “Reverso” comes from the reversed stitching on the toecap. This burgundy color oxford by Aubercy has seen an up tick of late. I think it has to do with the color which, is beautiful and then, the fit. The reaction of clients that slip a pair of Aubercy on for the first time is fun to watch. It’s a look of amazement that a shoe right out of the box is so light and comfortable. “They feel like slippers” is a typical refrain.

007 Wore Them

October 24th, 2008

In Tomorrow Never Dies Pierce Brosnan as James Bond wore Church’s monk straps when he thwarted a crazed media mogul’s plan to start a third world war. Two years later, in The World is not Enough, he performed a similar feat – in the same shoes. These shoes and others will be among those at our Church’s Trunk Show tomorrow. We have several styles for the Ms Bond’s too. Please join us from 11-6.

The Value of Quality

October 23rd, 2008

I received a call from a gentleman who was inquiring about the Edward Green Southwold. In short he related to me the story of how he came to understand the value of such a shoe and how he explained the cost of a pair of E.G. shoes to his girlfriend in terms of cost averaging. Makes sense to me; as I told him I’ve been talking about this for quite a while. For those who are not familiar with this theory let me explain.

The other day a man in his mid 60’s came into the shop with his wife and son, he saw the Church’s shoes on display and proudly announced that the shoes he had on were Church’s and he had been wearing them for 20 plus years. He had taken good care and resoled them and was still wearing them. In fact they were the Diplomat in Brown Nevada Calf that we sell today. In today’s market he would pay $680 for those shoes; average that over 20 years and that’s $34 a year. Sure new sole adds something more but still that’s pretty impressive and that’s cost averaging.

The point is that he made an investment in a pair of shoes more than 20 years ago and is still wearing and enjoying them. How many things can we use and enjoy over that period of time? And that is merely the practical aspect.

A pair of quality shoes has value beyond their years. What they add to a wardrobe is unquantifiable. The better the shoe the better your wardrobe. It’s as simple as that. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating because now is a time for wise investing, and the wisest of men understand this. You can spend ten thousand dollars from your ankles up but it won’t mean squat if you’re wearing cheap shoes.

The Shoes in the Window

October 22nd, 2008

This week we feature our newest Church’s loafer the Swanley. Set against the background of a hot pink Psycho Bunny cashmere scarf, it’s a shockingly wonderful combination. Sorry if I’m being redundant but I really like this shoe, and so it seems do many of our customers.
